Laminate Floor Tiles – The Easier Alternative to Tile and Wood Floors

Laminate floor tiles are one of the most cost effective flooring systems on the market today, especially when compared to tile and wood floors.  Laminate flooring offers considerable savings while still providing an attractive flooring solution for any home.  With manufacturers offering vinyl flooring in a wide range of styles including exotic hardwoods and expensive tiles, homeowner can install a high-end looking floor without the price tag.

Ceramic tile is one of the most difficult and costly flooring systems to install on the market today.  This flooring is so labor intensive since it requires several steps to complete the installation.  First, you must take the time to prep the sub floor prior to the installation if you’re looking for a proper install.  The second step of grouting the floor can be time consuming not to mention quite strenuous on the installer’s back as well.  The last step for installing a tile floor involves the application of a grout and tile sealer.  The sealer prevents dirt, debris and any other substance from infiltrating the porous grout lines.

Installing a hardwood floor, though not a difficult as installing a tile floor, still requires a great deal of experience.  Further complicating matters is the need for expensive power equipment such as miter box saws and table saws.  All of this can add up when you decide to install a hardwood floor for your home.  Compartively speaking, laminate floor tiles are much less costly to install than hardwood flooring.

It incredibly easy to install laminate floor tiles for your home when compared to other flooring systems.  As with vinyl flooring, these floors can be installed over existing floors provided the conditions are right.  Laminate flooring requires an underlayment that serves two purposes. The first is to act as a vapor barrier between the subfloor and laminate floor tiles.  The second purpose for the underlayment is to function as a sound dampener as well to cushion the laminate floor.

Laminate floor tiles are easy to maintain once they have been installed in your home. These tiles form a seamless flooring pattern, cutting down on the amount of dirt that can be trapped between individual flooring tiles.  Since laminate flooring arrives from the factory with a protective coating already applied, cleaning the surface of the tiles is a snap.  All that you need is a damp mop and a good cleaning solution.

There are some disadvantages to installing laminate floor tiles in any room of your home.  Ideally, these floors are best suited for damp locations such as basements, laundry rooms or kitchens.  However, given their composite construction, they’re design options are not quite as numerous as that of ceramic tile or hardwood floors.  In addition, under intense heat or moisture these tiles have a tendency to de-laminate.  The process of de-lamination occurs when the individual layers that make up a flooring tile begin to separate.

Laminate floor tiles are the flooring of choice that offers an attractive alternative to higher priced floors.  There are several manufacturers of laminate flooring available at your local home improvement retailer.  These floors are an ideal choice for the beginning handyman who is looking for a relatively easy project to tackle.  Once installed, you can bask in the glory of having installed an attractive, durable floor at very little cost out of your pocket.  Now if only all your home improvement projects were this easy.
